Botox and Fillers in Time for the Holidays

Botox and Fillers in Time for the Holidays

By now, your schedule is likely already filling up with holiday gatherings and travel plans. You’ve got your go-to potluck recipe on hand, and your gift lists are organized (and you’ve checked them twice) — but what’re you doing to make sure you’re ready to face another holiday season?

It’s all too easy to push your needs to the back burner this time of year, but at Sanford Dermatology, we make it as simple and convenient as possible to squeeze in a little self-care.

We start by offering the best the market has to offer. Botox® and our suite of dermal fillers are all you need to revamp your look for your upcoming festivities.

Here’s a closer look at what each of these powerhouse injectables can do for you.

Botox basics

Botox is the brand name for the safe form of a toxin that comes from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It’s been around for many years and has been used to treat a variety of medical conditions, and back in 2002, the FDA gave it the green light to treat wrinkles.

But not just any wrinkles — dynamic wrinkles.

Dynamic wrinkles are those that show up when you make a facial expression or contract your facial muscles. Over time, those repetitive movements (think squinting, laughing, and frowning) wear out your skin's internal structure and cause wrinkles to appear more and more pronounced.

Botox has a temporary paralytic effect that prevents your facial muscles from contracting and, as a result, reduces the appearance of wrinkles.

We recommend Botox for dynamic wrinkles around and on your eyes, mouth, nose, and forehead.

You don’t have to wait to have wrinkles to get Botox, either. In fact, we recommend getting Botox in your 20s and 30s as a preventive measure.

Botox sessions are also quick and easy and only take around 10 minutes from start to finish. You’ll notice results within the first couple of days, which gives you plenty of time before your weekend holiday gathering.

We do recommend scheduling your injection with enough time for mild redness and tenderness to subside.

Filling you in on fillers

Wrinkles aren’t the only thing belying your age. Lax, sagging skin can make you look much older than you feel. But where did it come from?

From sun damage to toxins in cigarette smoke, there are many reasons why your skin has lost its grip, and the gradual effects of time are the biggest culprit.

As the years go by, your skin gradually loses the internal structures that keep it firm and supple. The result is lost volume and fragile skin that wrinkles and sags.

Enter fillers.

Our suite of fillers contains high levels of hyaluronic acid, a key ingredient to revitalizing your skin and plumping out your features. You may even notice some of your static wrinkles (wrinkles that appear on your face when it’s at rest) smooth out.

Hyaluronic acid also helps your skin hang onto moisture and produce more collagen, which keeps it healthy for the long haul.

We recommend fillers when you need help tackling thin lips, deep grooves, crepey skin, and sagging jowls and cheeks.

Results are almost immediate, and as with Botox, you should only need a few days to bounce back from some minor redness and tenderness.

Why limit yourself?

If you’ve got more than one cosmetic concern, there’s no reason to pick and choose your treatments. We encourage our patients to round out their look by getting both kinds of injectables.

Botox and fillers complement each other and can rejuvenate your look from different angles.
